Neuromodulators (Botox) in San Diego County

OVERVIEW

It takes just a few minutes to inject this neuromodulator directly into the area where results are desired. Our wrinkle Our dermatologists will use an extra fine needle to inject the appropriate amount of Botox, which varies depending on each patient’s specific needs. Our doctors’ goal is to produce natural looking results with Botox injections, relaxing the muscles just enough to reduce wrinkles without compromising normal facial expressions. A Botox wrinkle treatment is generally pain free, but some patients experience a slight tingling sensation or soreness in the injected area for a brief period of time. Patients in SD can return to their normal daily activities immediately after the injections.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Botox injections work by blocking nerve impulses that are responsible for the contraction of muscles. When the muscles aren’t able to contract the area appears relaxed and softer, giving a wrinkle free, more youthful appearance. The only muscles affected are the ones in the immediate treatment area where the wrinkle treatment is injected, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected. HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?

Patients experience results within 2 to 7 days, and the effects of Botox injections can last between 3-6 months. Additional wrinkle treatments can be repeated as the effects wear off.

ARE WRINKLE TREATMENT INJECTIONS SAFE?

When the word “Botox” is spoken, it’s important to understand that there are 2 different versions of botulinum toxin – one for therapeutic medical purposes and one for cosmetic purposes. The difference between the two is dosage. Botulinum Toxin can be used in higher doses to treat muscle spams in large muscles, most commonly used as a treatment for cerebral palsy. It’s in this higher dose where the reports of complications have been reported. OnabotulinumtoxinA is the branded version of a very low dose of the substance used to treat fine lines and wrinkles. Botox has an excellent safety record and has been referred to as “the aspirin of the 21st century.” It is a very well studied and SAFE product when used for cosmetic purposes.

NEUROTOXINS

Neurotoxins, such as BotoxDysportXeomin, and Jeuveau, are popular injectable treatments primarily used to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by relaxing the muscles responsible for them. While these treatments are most well-known for their cosmetic uses, they offer several other benefits as well. Below are the key benefits of neurotoxins:

1. Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles

  • Smoothens Dynamic Wrinkles: Neurotoxins work by temporarily blocking the signals between nerves and muscles, preventing the targeted muscles from contracting. This reduces the appearance of lines caused by muscle movement, such as crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines.
  • Non-Surgical Wrinkle Treatment: One of the biggest advantages is that neurotoxins provide a non-invasive alternative to surgical facelifts. They offer a quicker and more affordable option for reducing wrinkles without the need for incisions or recovery time.

2. Prevents New Wrinkles from Forming

  • Prevention of Wrinkles: Neurotoxins aren’t just effective at treating existing wrinkles — they can also prevent the formation of new wrinkles. By relaxing the muscles that cause deep lines, neurotoxins can slow the development of future wrinkles, especially in people who are beginning to see signs of aging.
  • Ideal for Younger Patients: Many people in their late 20s or early 30s use neurotoxins as a preventive treatment to keep their skin looking youthful and delay the aging process.

3. Quick and Convenient Treatment

  • Minimal Downtime: Neurotoxin treatments typically take only 10-20 minutes, making them perfect for people with busy schedules. You can often resume normal activities immediately afterward with little to no downtime.
  • No Recovery Period: Unlike surgery, there’s no significant recovery time after a neurotoxin treatment, which means minimal interruption to your daily routine.

4. Long-Lasting Results

  • Temporary Effects: While neurotoxin results are temporary (lasting 3 months), they are still quite long-lasting compared to many topical treatments.
  • Gradual Fading: The results of neurotoxin injections typically fade gradually, so you won’t experience a sudden return of wrinkles, and you can schedule your next treatment before wrinkles reappear.

5. Non-Invasive and Safe

  • Minimal Risks and Side Effects: Neurotoxin treatments are relatively low-risk when performed by a licensed and experienced provider. Side effects are typically mild and may include temporary redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, which resolves quickly.
  • FDA-Approved: Neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Daxxify and Jeuveau are all FDA-approved for cosmetic use, and have been proven to be safe and effective when used properly.

6. Provides Subtle, Natural-Looking Results

  • Customizable Results: One of the main benefits of neurotoxins is their ability to create subtle, natural-looking results. A skilled practitioner can inject small amounts of neurotoxin to smooth out wrinkles while still allowing for natural facial expressions. This helps avoid the “frozen” look that can occur with overuse of neurotoxins.
  • Targeted Treatment: Neurotoxin injections can be tailored to address specific concerns, such as forehead lines, crow’s feet, or frown lines, so you can achieve the most balanced and natural-looking rejuvenation.

7. Treatment for Other Medical Conditions

  • Migraine Relief: Botox (and other neurotoxins) is FDA-approved for the treatment of chronic migraines. It works by blocking the release of certain chemicals involved in the pain pathway, offering relief from frequent headaches.  We do not use insurance at our office for migraines however, as a cosmetic treatment, it can find significant improvement in migraines.
  • Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis): Neurotoxins can block the signals that stimulate sweat glands, making them effective for treating excessive sweating, particularly in areas like the underarms, hands, and feet.  If you fail other medical treatments we prescribe, your insurance may be able to cover the treatment of excess sweating in the armpits.
  • Muscle Spasms: Neurotoxins are also used to treat muscle spasms, such as those caused by conditions like cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, or spasticity, by relaxing the overactive muscles.  We use it in dermatology for the upper trapezoids which is often referred to as “Barbie Botox” to slenderize the neck and release pain and tension in the neck and upper back.  Average number of units is 50-100 units per session at a discounted rate for medical treatments.
  • Bruxism (Teeth Grinding): In some cases, neurotoxin injections can be used to relax the jaw muscles and reduce teeth grinding and jaw clenching, which can help with pain and prevent further dental issues.  This is a 2 session treatment that can be life changing.  it can help you sleep and prevent the breaking of teeth.  Average number of units is between 40-100 units total.  Initially you need to treat these muscles every 3 months, but with time you can spread this out to 1-3 treatments per year.

8. Can Be Combined with Other Aesthetic Treatments

  • Versatility in Treatment Plans: Neurotoxins can be used in combination with other treatments, such as dermal fillers, to address both volume loss and wrinkles. This combination approach provides a comprehensive solution for facial rejuvenation.
  • Compliments Skincare Routines: Neurotoxins can enhance the results of other non-surgical treatments, like chemical peels or microneedling, providing a more complete skin rejuvenation plan.

Summary:

Neurotoxin injections are highly effective for reducing wrinkles, preventing new ones from forming, and improving the overall appearance of the face. They offer subtle, natural-looking results with minimal downtime, making them a popular option for individuals seeking non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Additionally, neurotoxins have proven benefits beyond cosmetics, including treating migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms. For anyone looking to refresh their appearance without invasive surgery, neurotoxin treatments can be an excellent option.
If you’re considering a neurotoxin treatment, it’s important to consult with a skilled and experienced practitioner to ensure the best and most natural results.
